AN INVESTIGATION OF THE DYNAMICS OF THE FLOW DOWNSTREAM OF WALL MOUNTED VORTEX GENERATORS
25 January 2013
Vortex generators (VGs) have been studied extensively in the literature for a variety of fluid mechanics applications. These range from heat transfer enhancements [1,2,3] to separation control [4,5] and drag reduction [6]. Additionally VGs are interesting from a fundamental perspective due to their modification of the boundary layer. Luchini [7] among others have shown that a streamwise aliened vortex pair is the optimum disturbance in a laminar boundary layer to maximise growth rates of Klebanoff modes. This motivates the use of the delta winglets to perturb laminar boundary layer in the current work.
