The regular acquisition and archiving of digitally-encoded satellite imagery is continually expanding the meteorologist's historical record of satellite imagery. The historical record of digitally-encoded radar imagery, however, is only budding, given the rate at which radar imagery will be collected when NEXRAD is implemented.
