Bi-Directionally Functional Semiconductor Laser

A unipolar semiconductor laser functioning in both positive and negative bias-polarity is reported. The laser can be designed to display device properties very different between the two respective bias directions. This newly added functionality for a semiconductor laser has been made possible using the quantum cascade (QC) laser design. It should, however, be equally applicable to other cascade semiconductor lasers.
