Buckle Beam Relay Mechanical Analysis.

The DB1 or Buckle Beam relay is a new design DIP-type relay that uses an innovative buckling mechanism to obtain very low sensitivity, less than 80mw. For design optimization a finite element model using ANSYS(TM) has been developed. The model has identified the necessary changes in the design to improve sensitivity, to meet the contact force requirements, and to improve long term reliability. The initial CAD development design needed specific changes in fixed contact locations, material selection, beam thickness, and the armature-beam interface. These results are very difficult to obtain experimentally because the contact forces are not easily measured.
