The selection of a programming language is becoming increasingly important as telecommunications administrations leverage off their expertise to deploy new revenue-generation features in their networks. What characteristics should one look for in a programming language to meet the needs of this marketplace? World Wide Acceptance: Using a readily available and acknowledged language reduces risk and allows a telecommunications administration to leverage off a wide experience base. Efficiency: Use of a given language should no put a telecommunications administration at a competitive disadvantage because the language does not support real-time development well.
