Chaotic behavior of an extended system.
01 January 1989
Some general aspects of spatiotemporal chaos are considered with emphasis on long-range correlations and response. An attempt is made to characterize the statistical steady state of a chaotic system by analogy with the description of a system near thermal equilibrium. The one-dimensional Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation is considered as an example, and our present understanding of its statistical behavior is reviewed.
