Comment on 'Local Structure at Mn Sites in Icosahedral Mn-Al Quasicrystals' by Stern, Ma, and Bouldin.

EXAFS measurements were done on Al(6)Mn in icosahedral and orthorhombic forms by Stern, Ma, and Bouldin [E.A. Stern, Y. Ma, C.E. Bouldin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 55, 2172 (1985)] They interpret their results as showing that there are two Mn sites in the quasicrystal, with occupation ratio 1:r. One site is claimed to be like that in crystalline Al((6)Mn. In this Comment, I show that their conclusions are questionable, given the data they show and the analysis procedures reported.
