Communication network limits and high density interconnects for large-scale distributed computing systems.

Large-scale distributed computing systems are often limited by the global interconnection network through which the localized computing sites communicate. For example, the system packaging and interconnection hierarchy typically limits both the uniformity of the realizable communication networks and the communication bandwidth achievable at various levels of that hierarchy. The extent to which more advanced system technologies (as opposed to device technologies) can relax such limitations, imposed by conventional system packaging and interconnection on the communications environment, is considered here.
