Compact Free Space Crossconnect Using Individual Collimators

An 80 x 80 port free space crossconnect that uses individual collimators and beam steering micro mirrors is presented. The switch uses a design with beams converging on the micro mirrors, which leads to a small footprint of 50x40x20mm3, and an optimal use of the tilt angle range of the micromirrors. The switch exhibits a mean insertion loss of 2.5 dB, and a crosstalk rejection better than 60 dB.
