Comparison of 51.84-Gb/s SSB PAM4 and OOK Signal In An EML-Based IM/DD 80-km Transmission System

A comparison between 51.84-Gb/s SSB PAM4 and OOK signal at a transmission distance up to 80 km is experimentally demonstrated at the first time. An EML-Based IM/DD 80-km transmission is achieved by both modulation formats. The experimental result shows that the OOK signal performs 4-dB sensitivity difference better than the PAM4 signal does.
