We experimentally demonstrate the compensation of intra-channel nonlinear effects in an RZ-DPSK 40 Gb/s channel operating in the pseudo-linear regime using a periodically poled LiNbO3 device as an optical phase conjugator. For a 32X100 km system, over 2 decades of improvement in BER is observed when performing mid-system optical phase conjugation.

For a BER of ~ 5X10-4, the transmission reach with mid-system optical phase conjugation can be increased to 6,400 km, which is 25% more than can be achieved without phase conjugation.
