The respective characteristics and performances of the various types of h.v. d.c. supplies for high-power radio transmitters are briefly reviewed and compared with those of the hot-kathode mercury vapour rectifiers. Characteristics of a series of hot-kathode mercury-vapour valves designed by the L.M.T. Laboratories are given. The influence of the characteristics of the rectifier circuit on the valve performances is also considered. Grid-controlled hot-kathode mercury-vapour rectifiers are also reviewed and a description is given of a simple system for firing the valves.
