Accelerate business with trusted microwave transport performance

Graphic design of a night city from above

5G is a critical connectivity choice for businesses worldwide, driving innovation, accelerating digital transformation and enabling new revenue-generating services. As 5G adoption scales and communications service providers (CSP) are making strategic decisions about network evolution toward Advanced 5G and 6G, the monetization of network investments becomes increasingly important.

A robust transport solution is essential to meet the growth in cellular data and wireless internet traffic and deliver services with higher throughput needs. With microwave transport, CSPs can build the required capacity cost-efficiently, supporting consumer use cases, industries, the public sector and enterprises of all sizes.

At Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, we launched new products and solutions that are well-aligned with our customers’ business targets. We help customers harness the efficiencies of AI and provide microwave transport products that help pave the path for Advanced 5G and 6G.

Enhancing 5G monetization and expanding business opportunities

The rapid advancements in AI-enhanced applications and the expanding volumes of AI processing in end-user devices and the cloud are increasing data traffic in both downlink and in uplink. Entertainment services like video streaming and gaming continue growing, also accelerating the need for premium broadband services often delivered with fixed wireless access.

These services need a robust 5G backhaul, and microwave transport is a flexible choice that helps extend the reach of 5G also to the areas where fiber is not available or would be too expensive or even impossible to deploy. Another important focus area is business connectivity for enterprises, where microwave transport is a reliable choice and fast to implement.

Microwave transport adapts to many more use cases that require trusted performance and high availability. For example, it provides an ideal extension and backup solution for fiber backbones, and for connecting critical agencies such as public safety and government offices.

Delivering trusted performance with future-ready solutions

Nokia Wavence microwave transport portfolio provides optimized, scalable and cost-efficient solutions that deliver trusted performance in all deployment scenarios. Our products include a variety of radios supporting a wide range of spectrum bands and a family of microwave service switches for connecting a high number of radios seamlessly. Furthermore, with our AI-assisted automation tool and digital twin, our customers can optimize microwave transport energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.

At MWC25, we introduced our new flagship microwave transport platform, the future-ready MSS-400, which provides 400 Gbps switching capacity—four times higher than the industry average. It’s ready to support Advanced 5G and 6G.

Our solution allows aggregating spectrum assets for multi-band flexibility, which increases overall capacity of the microwave links, providing up to 25 Gbps throughput per direction. This enables our customers to support more demanding services and use cases for both 5G cell sites and trunking systems.

We will be showcasing MSS-400 at our WAVExperts Americas user group event on May 6-7 in Dallas, Texas. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet our experts and discuss how our innovative microwave transport solutions meet your connectivity needs. Register to WAVExperts Americas 2025 here.
