Congratulations to the 2020 Bell Labs Fellows

Bell labs fellows plaques

Every year Nokia Bell Labs recognizes a select few individuals who have made outstanding and sustained R&D contributions to Nokia and the global technical community, bestowing on them the distinguished title of Bell Lab Fellow. This is the highest honor given to members of our technical community, and the Fellows serve as examples to Nokia and the industry at large by setting the highest standard for the technical community.

At a virtual awards ceremony in December Nokia inducted seven new Fellows. These honorees hail from across Nokia’s research and development functions and their work spans many disciplines, ranging from the most advanced optical and mobile network technologies to advances in video processing and the pioneering of new VPN types. Their innovations and ideas have not only been critical to Nokia’s business – leading to groundbreaking new products, platforms and software – but have also set or defined new standards in their fields. The Bell Labs Fellows program launched in 1982, and since then only 330 researchers and engineers have joined its august ranks, with 90 Fellows currently working for the company, include the new 2020 cohort.

2020 Bell Labs Fellows

“The Bell Labs Fellow Award is really the pinnacle of technical accomplishment in industrial technical innovation, as the award requires not only technical brilliance but significant industry impact through the widespread adoption of the approach in systems and solutions,” said Marcus Weldon, Nokia Corporate CTO and President of Bell Labs. “Every year it is incredibly rewarding to recognize these outstanding individuals who have dedicated their professional lives to the pursuit of excellence with real human impact, and this year’s group of Fellows is particularly impressive in this regard.”
