Immersive fan experiences: The future of sports and entertainment with Nokia RXRM

What if your audience could choose the perfect view of a season-defining goal? Or enjoy a concert from the best seat in the house – without actually being there? The way we engage with live sports and entertainment is evolving rapidly. The question is: Are you ready to be part of the change?
Nokia is redefining both the fan experience and enabling new revenue opportunities for sports teams, event organizers and venue owners. With the Nokia Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) solution and the world’s first-of-its-kind Nokia 5G 360 Camera, live events are becoming more immersive than ever. This powerful combination delivers real-time 360° video streaming with 3D spatial audio, bringing the thrill of a match, the energy of a concert, or the wonder of an exhibition to audiences everywhere – whether they’re at the venue or watching remotely on the other side of the world.
With Nokia RXRM, every fan gets a unique experience. Multiple camera feeds and real-time 360° multimedia streaming let viewers control their perspective, making them feel like they’re right in the action. For venue owners and event operators, this technology opens up new revenue streams. And for security teams personnel, RXRM provides a comprehensive, real-time view of the crowd, enhancing safety and smooth movement within the venue.
Partnering with industry pioneers means merging tech and tradition
Nokia is already working with leading sports organizations like Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Red Bull Salzburg to expand possibilities for fan engagement. These collaborations are breaking new ground in immersive event experiences.
Eintracht Frankfurt, a top-tier German football club, is also a pioneer in digital technology through its digital subsidiary, EintrachtTech. Together with Nokia, the club is exploring ways to offer new multimedia formats both in the stadium and remotely. The full Nokia RXRM and 5G 360 Camera solution is already tested by EintrachtTech’s digital center ’Arena of IoT‘, with the aim of bringing added value to Deutsche Bank Park and the club’s wider partner ecosystem.
A dominant force in Austrian football, FC Red Bull Salzburg is also at the forefront of innovation. In partnership with Nokia and Austrian telecom provider A1, the club introduced a cutting-edge fan experience during the UEFA qualifier against FC Twente. Two 360° cameras captured the action from key vantage points in the stadium, while a VIP box was equipped with a head-mounted display (HMD) for an immersive viewing experience, besides a TV screen. Meanwhile, 250 VIP guests at A1’s headquarters in Vienna – almost 300 km away – watched the match in real-time virtual reality via HMD glasses and screens. Impressively, the RXRM stream was 2 to 15 seconds ahead of the official TV broadcast. Press release
