Because we need all kinds of minds

In All Kinds of Minds, we cherish neurodiversity

As no two individuals are the same, there are no identical brains or identical perceptions of the world. To achieve the best results, we need to bring together a variety of minds to work in harmony. This ERG is dedicated to promoting education, support, and awareness of neurodiversity. Within AKOM, individuals can openly share their personal experiences, seek support, and collaboratively contribute to changing the way neurodiversity is perceived.

We understand neurodiversity as the concept that neurological differences, like autism spectrum, ADHD, dyslexia, and others, are natural variations of the human brain construction. It emphasizes that these differences should be recognized and respected as part of the diversity of the human population, rather than being pathologized as disorders.

Overall, neurodiversity challenges the traditional view of neurological differences as deficits. Instead, it celebrates these differences as a valuable part of the human experience, enriching our communities and broadening our understanding of what it means to be human

At Nokia, we act together but each one of us is different

That’s why it is important to understand and respect these differences to create a space, where all perspectives are welcomed. This concept is important for several reasons:

Respect

Neurodiversity promotes the understanding that neurological differences are a part of human diversity. This perspective helps reduce stigma and encourages respect and acceptance for people who think and experience the world differently.

Well-being

When we accept and understand neurodiversity, neurodivergent individuals often experience improved mental health and well-being. They are more likely to feel valued and understood, reducing feelings of isolation and anxiety, and boosting self-esteem.

Inclusion

Embracing neurodiversity creates more inclusive environments in education, workplaces, and communities. It supports the creation of spaces that accommodate various ways of thinking and learning, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Ethics

The neurodiversity movement aligns with broader inclusion principles at Nokia to be Open, Empowered and Fearless for all individuals. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal opportunities and fair treatment for all individuals, regardless of their neurological makeup.

Power

People with different neurological profiles often possess unique skills and strengths, such as creativity, attention to detail, or innovative problem-solving. Recognizing and valuing these strengths can benefit society by bringing diverse perspectives and talents to various fields.
