Solidarity and support for the LGBT+ community

EQUAL! is an educational and support group that promotes the interests of Nokia employees who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or related (LGBT+) or who have family, friends, or colleagues who are LGBT+. Following common usage, the ‘+’ stands for related groups, such as asexual, intersex, queer, questioning, and ensures EQUAL! encompasses the entire spectrum of gender fluidity and sexual identities.

Through support, advocacy and educational programs, we aim to foster inclusion and advance permanent change to make our workplace environment a more productive and comfortable place for all employees, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

Joining hands across the globe

EQUAL! is made up of local chapters and country delegates around the world.

In 2020, we launched the company’s first OUTstanding Leaders development program, which has increased visibility and career development opportunities for LGBT+ leaders, while providing role models to LGBT+ colleagues who face challenges at work. Spanning different locations and business roles, the program features three engagement elements; senior guest speakers, mentorship by company leaders and group projects aimed at advancing inclusion and diversity in the workplace. The OUTstanding Leaders program now includes also participants from our customer and partner organizations.

As the final event of 2024 activities, we are organizing a talent show that celebrates the diversity and creativity within the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.

EQUAL! is also the originator of the Safe Space Program, which is now used under permission from LEAGUE at AT&T. We also arrange or participate in events throughout the year and support the company’s own inclusion and diversity activities.

Proud to have international recognition

Our work has received international praise and recognition.

Nokia received the Workplace Pride Global Benchmark Ambassador award three times in a row (2020 to 2022)

Inclusion in the Global Benchmark for LGBTI inclusive workplaces.

Nokia scored 100% in Corporate Equality Index’s “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” in 2021 and 2022.

An active network of dedicated members

As one of the oldest LGBT+ employee resource groups in existence (our roots go back to the 1980s), we have a vibrant community of LGBT+ employees and membership is open to all employees. We cooperate with allied employee groups, such as StrongHer and NOKIA POLAND PRIDE in making Nokia a friendly and productive workplace for all.
