Partnering for good: Nokia and TELUS help bring immersive learning opportunities to remote communities
TELUS and the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, along with a team of partners including Nokia, have announced a grant to the Fondation Docteur Camille-Marcoux for the distribution of 10 Lü systems to connect youth in the remote Lower North Shore in Quebec with immersive learning opportunities.
The 600 students living in these isolated communities and Innu territories can now learn while staying active and developing their social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills. The Lü environments will also be accessible for residents of all of the remote and Indigenous communities in the Lower North Shore, creating a circuit of connections between younger and older generations and diverse cultures all across Quebec.
Last year, I shared how Nokia and Telus worked together to deliver high-speed internet and wireless phone services to the communities in the Lower North Shore which stretches 400 kilometers. To do so, we deployed one of the world’s largest microwave radio systems. I’m excited to see how this wireless network is now being used to spark imagination and inspiration for the kids who now have access to the Lü community.
Nokia is proud to partner with TELUS Friendly Future Foundation on this project. Founded in 2018, the foundation is helping to build brighter futures for youth through the power of technology, supporting charities that offer health or education programs that help at-risk youth thrive in a digital world.
We believe over the next few years, more and more people will have equal access to the digital age, no matter where they live. Expanding access to high-speed internet enables people of all ages to connect to the information and opportunities they want and need, whether at home or on the move.
Since the arrival of high-speed internet in the area, the businesses, healthcare centers and schools in the Lower North Shore can now connect to the rest of the world. Initiatives like this grant are giving residents the opportunity to utilize it and Nokia Canada is excited to be part of this important community project.
