Our world-class standardization experts are internationally recognized for their expertise. This is reflected by the fact that Nokia holds more than 100 board member, chair, and other official positions across all key standardization bodies and industry associations. Nokia is active in 300 standardization and industry organizations globally.
Nokia provides leadership in:
- Mobile network standards organizations: Including 3GPP and the seven encompassed Standards Development Organizations: ETSI, ATIS, ARIB, TTC, TTA, CCSA and TSDSI. Nokia is also highly active in industry organizations dedicated to advancing mobile network technologies and standards, including the O-RAN Alliance, GSMA, GSA, 5G Americas, and NGMN.
- Shaping the 5G and 6G ecosystem: In 2016, Nokia founded the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). In 2018, Nokia created the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA). And in 2024, Nokia was a founding member of the AI-RAN Alliance. Today, Nokia is shaping the 6G ecosystem and actively participating in amongst others the NextG Alliance in US, SNS 6G-IA in Europe, and Bharat 6G Alliance in India.
- Fixed access standards organizations: Nokia plays a leading role in standards organizations such as Broadband Forum and IEEE 802.11. Our active participation in these groups ensures the development of robust and interoperable fixed access technologies. Additionally, we are involved with key regional standards organizations to support and enhance local network advancements. Nokia was one of the six founders of the Wi-Fi Alliance in 1999.
- IP routing and optics standards organizations: Nokia actively contributes to IP routing, Ethernet switching and optics and optics standards organizations, including IETF, IEEE 802, ITU, OIF, and ONF. Our involvement ensures the progress and interoperability of global networking technologies.
- Multimedia organizations: Nokia is actively involved in the Metaverse Standards Forum and MPEG. Our participation helps shape the future of video & audio standards and technologies.
