Biography

Alexei Ashikhmin received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Institute of Information Transmission Problems, Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, Russia, in 1994. His Ph.D. thesis was devoted to fast decoding algorithms of block and convolutional codes and their applications in communications systems.

From September 1995 to September 1996, he was with Mathematics and Computer Science Department of Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands. His research interests at that time were primarily focused on algebraic and combinatorial problems of error correcting codes, matroid theory, and secret sharing schemes.

From January 1997 to July 1999, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Computer, Information, and Communication (CIC-3) Group of Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM, USA. During this time his research was mostly concentrated at that time recently emerged area of quantum error correcting codes and quantum information theory.

Since 1999, he has been with the Mathematics of Networks and Communications Research Department, Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ. His current research interests include communications theory, large scale antenna arrays, information theory, classical and quantum error correcting codes.
