Biography

Foad Sohrabi is a member of technical staff in the Radio Systems Research Lab, Bell Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, USA. His research interests span the broad areas in optimization theory, information theory, machine learning, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and wireless communications. Prior to joining Bell Labs, Foad Sohrabi held the position of Senior Technical Staff at Ofinno, Reston, Virginia, conducting research on applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the next generations of wireless communications (5G/6G). Prior to his affiliation with Ofinno, he spent over three years as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Course Instructor at the University of Toronto, where he actively contributed to the academic and research community. Foad received his PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada, in February 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Wei Yu. A part of his Ph.D. dissertation, also published in IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, received the _IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award_ in 2017. During his PhD program, he also worked at Nokia Bell Labs, Stuttgart, Germany for six months as a research intern. Foad received his MASc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, in August 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Tim Davidson. His Master’s thesis received the _Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Thesis_, from McMaster University in 2013. Foad earned his BASc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, in August 2011.
