Biography

Mao Xiaomao, Ph.D., major in communication and information system, was graduated from Zhejiang University. During her school days, she proposed for the first time the concept of cognitive relay and won the best paper award of China 15th Symposium on Information Theory. She joined Nokia after school in 2011 and has worked in multiple positions: simulation engineer, system design and architect, research engineer, etc. Now she works in Bell Labs Consulting team as a senior consultant.

She leaded the MIMO features design in Nokia TD-LTE product and won several times in a row the best quality Awards from LTE business line. Her limited water-filling solution to the beamforming overshooting issue was patented and implemented in NOKIA LTE product RL55 and later. The solution saves the antenna HW from burning out, therefore the field engineer from site visit, as a result NOKIA from big dollars on operation expense.

She was recruited as the first a few members for 5G A&S team and triggered the 5G massive MIMO solution discussion internal NOKIA. She leaded the 5G A&S simulation team and provided the NOKIA 5G massive MIMO solution to the customers. She took part in the 5G high frequency band multi antenna system proof of concept project, which achieved the first time in human history up to 20Gbps single link over the air.

Since 2016, she has been working as a standardization researcher and RAN1 delegate/rapporteur. She contributes to the development and specification of LTE and 5G NR standard and holds many standard essential patents on topics MIMO etc. She won in 2016 the HZ TC IPR submission award and in 2017, 2018 the innovation star awards for her outstanding contribution in NOKIA IPR profile. A video sponsored by NOKIA was shot to promote her deeds and kept broadcasting in HZ TC for year, it sparked a huge innovation wave inside HZ TC.

After 4 yrs in Hangzhou and 3 yrs in Arlington Height/Naperville, she transfered to Nozay, France in 2019 and works as back office senior research specialist since then. Her topics range from massive MIMO, AI/ML for 5G to NaS for 6G. Despite the inconvenience of Covid days, she keeps delivering high quality patents. Till yr 2022, she has (co-)authored 35 filed applications.
