Biography

Paloma is a condensed matter physicist specialized in topological phases of matter. Her experience in condensed matter physics goes from studying atomistic processes in 2D systems and coupling topological defects in chiral-magnets and superconducting systems to fabrication devices that host exotic topological phases of matter for quantum computing applications. In 2023, she joined Nokia-Bell Labs as a Quantum Computing Researcher, and she is responsible for the design, fabrication, optimization, and simulation of topological devices for the study of topological phases of matter and the realization of a topological qubit. She currently focuses on creating innovative and tailored approaches to device geometry and architecture to attain greater oscillation amplitudes in interferometry experiments. When not in the lab, she is either travelling or on a call with her family and friends.

Education
  • Paloma received her Ph.D. from the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2022. Her supervisors were Prof. Christos Panagopoulos and Prof. Liu Zheng. Her thesis focused on the coupling of skyrmions and superconducting vortices as an emergent platform to trigger topological superconductivity and the formation of Majorana Bound States inside vortex cores for quantum computing applications.
  • Ph.D. Thesis https://hdl.handle.net/10356/159298
  • She received M.Sc. in Physics in 2015 from the Balseiro Institute, Argentina. Her work was focused on the study of Nonalloy/alloy transitions in the Sn/Cu(001) system and 2D metal-organic networks using scanning tunneling microscopy, low energy electron diffraction experimental characterization techniques and by DFT calculations.
  • B.Sc. in Physics in 2014 from the Balseiro Institute , Argentina.
