Biography

René Bonk was born in August 1979 in Germany. In 2006 he received the Diploma degree in Physics from the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany) for work in the field of quantum transport in low-dimensional electronic systems. In 2012 he finalized his work towards the Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). During his Ph.D. studies he was working in the area of all-optical signal processing and linear and non-linear semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) for future metro-access networks. From 2006 to 2009 he managed the European FP6 project “TRIUMPH” (Transparent Ring Interconnection Using Multi-wavelength Photonic Switches). Currently, he is with Alcatel-Lucent, Bell Labs, where he is working as a research engineer in the field of next-generation optical metro-access networks.

Dr. Bonk has authored and co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, several postdeadline papers as well as a book chapter on “linear semiconductor optical amplifiers”. He is a recipient of several scientific awards, and has been working as a referee for a number of IEEE and OSA publications and conferences.
