Biography

Werner Coomans (werner.coomans@nokia-bell-labs.com) heads the Fixed Networks Department in Antwerp within the Access Lab of Nokia Bell Labs, focusing on next-generation gigabit access technologies leveraging legacy infrastructure. He actively contributes to several standardization bodies, such as ITU-T and CableLabs, has filed more than 15 patents, and was the recipient of a PhD Fellowship of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO, 2009), the Bell Labs Outstanding Results Award (2018), and the Edison Patent Award for Telecommunications (2019). He joined Bell Labs in 2013, after obtaining an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (2009) and a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (2013) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on semiconductor lasers.
